The Ethics of Digital Media in Therapy in the Internet Age Workshop

The Internet has dramatically increased the client's access to information about their therapist. Many therapists have embraced digital media for professional self-disclosure through blogs and webpages. Others seek to use social media to establish themselves as relationship experts in the community and engage with potential clients. These practices are new territory for ethical and legal standards for confidentiality and client welfare.

Participants in this workshop will learn:

  • How relevant ethical and legal standards about confidentiality and client welfare inform therapists judgments about the use of digital media

  • Best practices of protecting confidential client information when using digital means

  • Common digital media practices that clients may take for granted, but therapists may be more deliberate.
